A few of the top culprits... bright or light cream formula (no frost or shimmer) nail polish shades, and white. Even the best whites can look a bit streaky. I discovered a mind-blowing solution. Sounds a bit dramatic, I know, but the results are crazy good.
I love my nail polish to look super even and opaque, true-to-color, and majorly glossy.
Like this...
Hard to believe that this is only with two thin coats of the actual white. I used Sally Hansen X-Treme Wear in White On... One of THE BEST whites, but still a bit streaky unless you do like 3-4 coats, which then can be a bit thick and cause issues like peeling. Not to mention taking forever to dry.
Here's my secret...
I'm LOVING this trick! I've tested this with other colors as well and it works every time!
Have you guys tried this trick? What do you think?
Great tip. I will try it some time soon.
ReplyDeletexx Stephanie (www.stephaniesstyleblog.blogspot.com)
why'd you skip the base coat? too many coats already?
ReplyDeleteGoing to try this when I get home! I usually skip whites at home for this very reason
I'm totally going to have to try this!!! Btw I know you really love sigma brushes and I was wondering what kit you would recommend to start off with. I usually just use my clean fingers but I would really like to get some good quality brushes and want a complete kit (or close to complete). Thanks!
ReplyDeleteAhh Tiffany, this is mind-blowing and life changing :) Thanks!!
ReplyDeletethanks for the tip!

I am totally going to have to try this tip! Thanks. I love the little SH White On polish too and it's almost as good as OPI Alpine Snow for a fraction of the cost. Everyone I talk to disagrees but I am glad you said so too as I think they are simply make up snobs and afraid to admit they like a "drugstore" product. I'm not scared.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to try this for sure! I had to use 4 coats to get a decent white nail...essie marshmallow. So annoying to wait for it to dry! Thanks!! =)
ReplyDeleteGreat tip! :) I absolutely hate streaky nails aswell so will definitely be trying this out x
ReplyDeleteessie is the best. www.francescasbeautybook.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteAh!! Brilliant! Thank you so much for the tip...I hate it when I end up with streaky nails, when I spend a lot on a nice nail polish.
ReplyDeleteI'll have to try this next time!

Life saviour tip! Especialy for white nails :)
ReplyDeleteWow this is so great! I have been struggling with white polish forever and was getting ready to drop some $$ on higher-end polish. I think I will try this when I get home since I have a matte top coat and this Sally Hansen polish. Btw, the Out The Door topcoat you recommended has the most amazing staying power. I have currently been wearing this polish for 5 days and only need to redo my nails because they are growing out and I have picked at them. Amazing stuff! :)
ReplyDeleteGreat idea, definitely going to try this!
ReplyDeleteI have not tried this tip but it seems incredible! I would never have thought of this but I will definitely be trying it!

Genius! I was just thinking about this!
ReplyDeleteWho would have thought? I'll definitely be trying this one instead of building up 16 coats of polish and looking like I have little bread loafs on top of my nails because it's so thick and chunky (eww)
ReplyDeletegreat tip!
ReplyDeleteGreat tip! I'm going to be trying this. <3 Carolyn
ReplyDeleteI'm going to try base-coating my nails in a beige sheer, I have that already from sallyhansen. After seeing this reminder of perpetual streaks, even though your product is a great option, I am encouraged to go for a base coat and see if that helps. The sheer polish sounds like a promising approach since it is between heavy and nothing at all as you are saying here, just a little help creates a huge difference in reference to streaking or not.
ReplyDeleteSo going to try this...thanks!!!!
ReplyDeleteI wonder if it would work just the same if you used the matte coat AS the base coat. hmmm.
ReplyDeleteThat's a great tip. The Sally Hansen X-Treme wear is great but I like Color Club Paris White...it's an amazing white, with great formula and not expensive.
ReplyDeleteLOVE your nails! Thanks for the tip...I'm definitely going to give this idea a try! Btw, what color is that glass you are holding? Black and gold? And where did you get it from?...I absolutely love it and your style!
ReplyDeleteI've never heard of this but am willing to try it :) Not sure why the base coat doesn't do the same thing in the first place? I have found using a milky white base coat (like Orly Ridgefiller) gives your nails a good start with pastels or white polishes!
ReplyDeleteInteresting! I wonder what causes the matte coat to help out - whatever it is, I can't wait to try! Thanks for the tip!!

ReplyDeletestephlifebeauty.blogspot.com
That is seriously an AWESOME tip!!! Thanks so much for sharing :)
ReplyDeleteDon't want to assume foul play, but it would seem that Julep's been reading your blog and... ripped off your "matte coat sandwich" idea. :( I was genuinely surprised, as your post was the first time I'd ever read this tip... and I read a LOT about polish.
ReplyDeletehttp://blog.julep.com/diy-white-manicure/
Actually, I believe this was InStyle towards the end of last year or the beginning of this year. I've been using a matte polish in between my two layers of color for awhile now.
DeleteAnd here too: http://www.nzgirl.co.nz/buy/how-to-no-streak-nails/
DeleteOnly on this page we're on she says to use the matte coat first, in lieu of a base coat. I plan on trying this tip tonight!
Cool tip!
