Eyeliner Howto: Tightlining Technique, the Waterline & Favorite Products

Eyeballs make me cringe. Seriously. I can sometimes just imagine getting poked in the eye or something crazy happening to my eyes and I almost throw up. True story.

Because of this, lining the waterline and tightlining were always something I stayed away from up until a couple years ago. It just seemed dangerous, unnecessary, and gross.

I'm so glad I gave it a shot, practiced, and have discovered some great fool-proof products over the past few years because I absolutely love the results.
So to show you what "tightlining" and lining the waterline really mean, and how to get great results, I figured I'd make a handy dandy little video tutorial.

...One that didn't make it seem dangerous, unnecessary, and gross.
Because I still cringe whenever I see someone else do it.

If you have sensitive eyes and want to try this technique, make sure you stick to the tips I give in the video and choose safe products that are safe for use in that area. Also, maybe just skip the waterline and start with tightlining.
Check out the video below for a description of both and a tutorial/demonstration of these lining techniques.

I love all your tips. I wanted to ask you to post a video showing how to remove eye make up, especially eyeliner from the water line. I have a hard time removing it completely. Thanks.

Hi, first comment here ! I really learn a lot from all your videos, thank you !!!

I've been searching for a long long time for a trick to line the upper waterline without doing the lower one (because as you know and say, that makes the eye smaller). What I do on the upper waterline always instantly transfers to the lower waterline.
Is there a trick or a particular type of product (I use gel liner) that would work for that ???

Thank you so much if you (or other readers !) have time to answer !

It makes me cringe when people PULL down their under-eye area to tightline or to line their water line.

Hahahaha! I'm the EXACT same way with eyeballs I swear, I'll barf. I'm so lucky I don't have to wear contacts because yeah. Barfing for sure. Thanks for the tutorial!

Haha! I'm the same way! I hate eyeballs. And I get grossed out when other people tightline, but I can do it to myself just fine!

I also don't like seeing people take out contacts... YUCK!

I love all of your videos and tips! I'm getting married in a month and will be doing my own makeup for my wedding. Is there any way you could do an updated simple bridal makeup tutorial for a bride doing their own makeup? I would love any tips you have to offer! I've also gotten turned on to using the Temptu airbrush makeup system from Sephora and I love it! Would love to see you do a review/tutorial with that as well! Great blog!

Tiffany, I was just introduced to your you tube site and I love your videos. Besides the beautiful make up that you do and all the great info you share you have amazing style. Have you ever thought about a fashion blog? I know you sometimes share outfit of the day but would love to follow a fashion blog by you that is just dedicated to that.

Tiffany!

I absolutely love your videos, and on this recent video I was wondering what brush were you using to apply the Laura Mercier eyeliner?

Elizabeth on April 20, 2011 12:42 AM said...[Reply]

Hi Tiffany! So I was just wondering, you would apply mascara and eyeshadow (everything else) after you do all your eyeliner stuff? It looked like it from the video but I just wasn’t sure.
