Red Glitter Nails for the 4th!

Illamasqua in Untold

Happy 4th of July everyone! I'll be sporting this color on my nails while cooking out and seeing a fireworks show to celebrate our Independence Day. Looks very cute with my blue romper! :)

Ok, so enough of that- about the color... Red is not my favorite color and I usually despise the hassle of glitter nail polish, but this combo is actually quite nice. This shade is a very dense glitter, which is sometimes hard to find. However, if you want that nice opaque, similar to the bottle look, you'll need to invest some time in this and apply 3 coats. And also a genius tip from my friend Lorraine-- Apply a coat of clear nail polish first, before applying the glitter so that removal is much easier. Also, don't forget a top coat to finish the process. ...Yeah, so that's a good 5 coats of nail polish right there. Yeah, they're a little thick and clumpy, but the glitter disguises it pretty well and looks really fun. :)

Maybe you could try to put a red polish underneath, so it cuts down the number of coat you need? But it does look gorgeous! It reminds me of Dorothy's ruby red slippers! Hahaha!

gorgeous :) Thanks for the clear nail polish tip. I always apply something as a base - especially with the glitter ones! This reminds me of the red version of the Absolutely Alice nail polish from OPI.

Happy 4th to you too!

Thanks for the tip on how to make removal easier. I never wear glitter nail polish precisely for that reason. I'll give it a try. That glitter red looks hot!

This looks a lot like China glaze Ruby Pumps, except their glitter is smaller. That one only takes me two coats, and is nice and smooth. I haven't tried any Illamasqua yet, as it's not available in my country. I'm a China Glaze girl all the way!

I'll try the base coat next time I wear a glitter polish. I always have a bugger of a time getting the glitter off of my nails.

Love them! I never thought about putting the base coat underneath glitter polish....totally makes sense. It is always such a pain to get glitter nail polish off!

As fun as that color looks, if it takes FIVE coats, no thank you! I hate glitter polish, too, but will try the clear coat trick next time. I also think the plain red polish UNDER the glitter is a great idea, too. Happy and safe 4th to you!

Thanks for sharing the tip about putting on a coat of clear before you put on the glitter! I'll definitely try that. My favorite glitter by far is Orly's Tiara, but it can be a pain to get off.

Definitely a festive nail color. Great for the 4th of July but even on days where you want to be reminded of the Wizard of Oz. I'm not into red nails much either but I love the glitter.
