So we all know that Essie and recently China Glaze has come out with the wonderful matte topcoats that will pretty much transform any of your favorite nail polishes into matte shades. However, since Sephora by OPI's Domestic Goddess is my absolute favorite nail polish, my heart skipped a beat when I found out that Domestic Goddess was one of the 3 shades the brand had selected to feature in limited edition matte formulas. Since I of course have the original as well, I figured I'd change it up a little and use the regular Domestic Goddess (gloss) formula to make pretty glossy tips on top of the matte formula. I think adding the glossy tips is a good way to make all matte nails a little more interesting :) Of course, you can always use any clear topcoat to create a shiny tip to any matte manicure, however it won't be as intense as layering an actual color.
You can even try a more bold look by using a black glossy color like OPI's Black Onyx on the tips. Although, I personally like pairing black tips with a black matte polish :)

I'll be quite honest, I've never been a fan of matte nails. I like matte colors but with a shine coat over. I feel matte just takes away from the pleasure of looking at your nails and enjoying the vibrant colors.
ReplyDeleteI love this new matte trend. I just bought my first on from the Napoleon line "The Divine Marchessa" its black and paired with sparkly tips looks great!
ReplyDeleteoo! I want to embrace the Mattes! Those matte/polish manicures are to die for pretty! Thanks for the post!
ReplyDeleteOh wow! I'm not a huge fan of matte nails but I love what you've done here. The contrasting finishes look incredible together. Now I feel like try something similar. Lovely!
ReplyDeletelove the shiny tips!!!!! i never thought of doing something like that!
ReplyDeletemust have!
ReplyDeletelooks great!
ReplyDeleteI love this look!!!!!
ReplyDeleteTone-on-tone nail polish? I just died.
ReplyDeleteHi Tiffany, I like the ton-in-tone version better. It is difficult to draw a perfect line with a different color. It looks always a bit messy and the all violet version is just more sophisticated.
ReplyDeleteI love what you did with the tips. the black tips was nicer but the glossy purple tips was very creative. :)
ReplyDeleteThe black on black sounds interesting, I'll have to see on trying that.
ReplyDeletelove the tone on tone, I never would have thought about it! And the black looks stunning as well! :)
ReplyDeleteThis looks so pretty! I love the all purple glossy/matte nails.
ReplyDeleteTiffany, will you do a video of how you do the tips? Do you use a guide or do you just paint it on 'carefully'!? Also, I went to Ulta and they had never even heard of the matte topcoat! I'm going to Sephora to look for it today!
ReplyDeleteI love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!
