Nails: Blue Memories...

OPI: Yoga-ta Get this Blue
This blue reminds me so much of my first "funky" nail polish... I was 12. I thought I was so dangerous with my dark sparkly navy Manic Panic nail polish. Which I'll admit, at that time, dark blue was unusual and I wasn't allowed to wear it many places.
Now, this dark, shimmery blue shade seems more sophisticated than rebellious. How times have changed... Anyway, I was SHOCKED at how gorgeous and amazing the formula of this polish was. It's so thick and non-streaky. I could have been fine with one coat.
I have but one (kind of major) complaint... That obnoxious "professional wide" brush that OPI has in some of it's polishes is unfortunately in this one. What is with that?? Some of my OPI colors have it, some don't (new and old). I can't figure it out. Some have the little plastic (what I like to refer to it as) "warning label" advertising the wide brush -- Which usually tells me to put it right back on the shelf. Anyway, it's a flat, wide brush that is really only conducive to people with square shaped cuticles and nails that are all the size of your big toenail. I just can't stand the thing. I made a mess of my cuticles with it (hence, the pictures of only my thumb and index finger...haha). I so wish they would go back to the regular brush for all the colors. Or maybe they have?? Let me know what you guys know about this crazines...haha.

  1. I will not buy OPI polishes anymore because of that wide brush! I have tiny nail beds and it just makes a huge mess of my nails. That color is beautiful though, and what I can see of your 2 nails you did a good job! :)

  2. i feel your pain...last week i painted my nails with OPI's "Hey, get in lime!" (which looks a lot like peppermint patty) and it came with the wide brush and i had no clue what that really meant b/c i usually just buy china glaze cuz im cheap and I made such a mess of my nails and im not the best at painting my nails so i feel your pain. Oh and I had just bought the polish the week before so they still use the wide brush

  4. Personally, I adore the wide brush. It might be me but I have smaller hands but for me, the wide brush works well. However, I hope OPI goes back to the narrow brush since others are bothered by it. It is easier to deal with a narrow brush if you like a wide then dealing with the wide if you like the narrow. I wonder why they switched to the wide brush.

  5. I HATE the wide brush. I make such a mess with it and have to go back with a Q-tip afterward to clean it up! Yuck. I think that is why I have stopped buying OPI and now I am more of an Essie girl :)

  6. aw, I am totally opposite, I really like the wide brush, when I use it I press down slightly and it fans out to maake a nice curve shape. I actually make less of a mess on my cuticles with their new brushes. haha.

  7. It seems to me that this color has an even larger brush than most of the large brushed ones have, or maybe the color just makes it seem that way. But aside from this color i really like the wide brushes OPI has, generally i find that polish goes on easier/smoother. =P

  9. i have no problem at all with the new pro brush. i love it! if you don't like it, i guess you can get the mini versions of the colours! OPI has mini sets every season and they use the baby brush instead of the fat ones :P

  10. Tiffany - have you ever tried putting a little bit of Vaseline on your cuticles before painting them? I'm just wondering if that might make it easier to remove any "excess" nail polish. I ALWAYS make a stinkin mess when I paint my nails. I had that idea recently but haven't had a chance to try it out yet. Just curious to see what you, or anyone else, thinks! :)

  12. I love love love the wide brush - isn't it funny how we all have different preferences. I work with 7 beauty/spa therapists, and they almost all (except for 1) prefer the wide brush.

  13. I prefer the wide brush - it's the reason why OPIs are my favorites! Some brands (like Zoya) have really tiny brushes, and I have a hard time getting the polish even. I try not to get too close to my cuticles though, and I have big hands, so that may be why.

  14. i like the wider brush in some formulas and a narrower brush in others. For example, there are some Essie colors that I wish had a wider brush, and others where i love the smaller brush. Same with OPI, there are some colors that i really like having the wider brush and others where i dont. i think it mostly has to do with the thickness of the formula. the thicker the polish, the narrower i want the brush. so like with this color (which i have and love btw) the wide brush is unnecessary because its a good thick formula and it does sometimes put too much on and make it messy to apply. but then there are other thinner formulas that i wish had the pro wide brush because i feel like even after 2 coats its a little streaky or i have to work with it a lot more to get it cover my whole nail. (and i think i have medium sized hands/nails haha.)

  15. oh and i forgot that i had the same first funky nailpolish story haha. i was only ever allowed to wear like pale pinks when i was younger and on my 13th birthday my mom got me this nail polish set from Avon that had something to do with space so there was this pretty silver grey color called moon and then this dark blue with sparkles that had something to do with the sky haha. and i LOVED that dark blue. it was awesome ;)

  16. Girl, I am SO feeling you on the wide brush issue! That is the precise reason why I will no longer buy OPI polish...I'm a dedicated China Glaze girl.

  17. @Sarah: I totally agree! The wide brush covers more of the nail bed. And waaay less mess :)

  19. OOOH! that color is gorgeous! but im with you on the brush! Those wide brushes make my nails look like i stuck my fingers in the bottle of polish... such a mess!

  20. Does anybody know where you can get good deals on OPI products? I know there are some sellers on ebay, but not sure which one to buy from. I am in Canada. Thanks in advance!

  21. LOL, that is so funny that you said this color reminded you of your first funky nail polish, because I just said that to myself the other day when I bought some purple and blue polish. Your right, it does seem more sophisticated now than rebellious, maybe because now I don't put multi-colored glitter polish over the purple or blue. How funny it is to remember the good olden days of teenagehood.

  23. I am so with you on that brush, but who can resist that color?
What I've started doing is when one of my OPI polishes with the thiner brush is gone I clean the brush with polish remover and save it to use with the bottles with the wider brush. It's a little hassel but not like that wider brush.
