Laura Mercier Eye Basics REVIEW

(Eye Shadow Primer) $24
Shade: Wheat

What it is:
This elegant creme evaporates to a dry finish, and leaves behind long-lasting semi-matte color. Water-resistant and crease-proof, it corrects imperfections and discoloration on the lid. (Sephora.com)

This is the eye shadow primer I've been waiting for... Well, not so much waiting, but I just didn't know it existed! Not only is it long wearing and keeps eye shadow from creasing all day, but it comes in a variety of flesh-toned and color-correcting shades that will work to neutralize and even the tone and color of the eye lid before eye shadow application. Or, it's nice all on its own! Some colors even contain subtle shimmer.
Since purchasing this, I've worn it both ways and the results were phenomenal. This product will surely replace my ever loving MAC Painterly Paint Pot addiction... It delivers the coverage of that product, with the long wear of a crease-proof and water resistant eye shadow primer. It's like Urban Decay Primer Potion and Painterly paint pot rolled into one convenient step.

  1. hi can you do a swatch of the laura mercier eye base next to the UDPP so we can see the color vibrancy? i don't like the wand applicator thing again. i don't get y these companies do that, its so unsanitary! ugh! oh well :)

  2. How do you apply this product? I have this in the peach color but I find that it looks caked on when it dries. Quite possibly I'm applying it wrong!

  3. Tash-- Apply it just as you would Urban Decay Primer Potion (if you have that). It sounds like you may be using a tad too much. Try dabbing on a smaller amount :) I haven't had any issues like that with mine.

  5. I love Laura Mercier products - her tinted moisturizer and secret camouflage are my favorite!

  6. Wow, I might give this a shot. Having trouble finding something for my lids...they are so dark, and the concealers and correctors I have are all wrong, makes them look ashy and purple. I'll have to check to see if they have an orange shade. Recently I have heard that's the way to go for dark eyes. Oh! I found you on twitter...not to be single white femalish on you! :)

  7. I have been using LM's tinted moisturizer for years now, and I love it (it's up there on my list with Make Up For Ever HD), and I think I will be trying this product soon. Thanks for the review! Love your videos too, by the way.

  8. Maybe I should try it :) It's sounds really good.
I have very oily and dark/purple eyelids, so do you think it would work? I mean with the oily eyelids?

    Thansk for the review! :)

  9. I got a free sample of this in Buff when I ordered some stuff from Laura Mercier. I never even used it until I saw your video. I have used it this week and love it! It is a great primer. I also use a brush to spread it out on my lid. I may look into other colors, like the yellow (cotton). I think that would really brighten up the lids.

  10. Glad to see someone else feels the same about LM eye basics!! I have loved Linen and Wheat long before the fuss of UDPP and Painterly!!! I must have gotten hooked while freelancing for Laura at one of her personal appearanced. I find you get more true color payoff than UDPP and longer wear than Painterly...

  12. I just got some of this and am also using it as a base under pencil and gloss for a good nude lip. It is awesome as a lip base as well as a lid base!

  14. Tiffany, I saw that Laura Mercier just came out with "Eye Canvas" as an eye primer, any thoughts on which is better? Thanks!
